Sustainable construction
We build our saunas with two things in mind – how do we provide the best outdoor sauna bathing for the UK climate and what are the most sustainable construction materials to use?
We know the UK weather is often challenging, saunas provide a warm retreat as long as they are designed to cope with this island particular blend of cold, damp and windy conditions.
Our premium saunas are designed for commercial use where they will be used multiple times a day, it means we insulate to a high standard so the heat is held for longer – in our opinion it also creates a deeper more luxurious sauna bathing experience.
Steel Frame
Our welded frame allows for the sauna to be occasional relocated and placed safely on many different types of ground. It also keeps the floor elevated from drawing any cold upwards.
Breather membrane
This ensures the elements stay out, but the insulation can breathe and be an effective insulator.
Sheep wool insulation
We use 75mm thermafleece which uses 70% sheeps wool and 30% recycled polyester, this combination acts as a premium insulation creating a deep sauna bath.
Vapour barrier
Our foil faced membrane reflects heat back into the sauna and creates a carefully controlled ventilated space to hold the correct amount of steam to create the perfect ‘Löyly’
Thermowood cladding

A wonderful development in timber engineering led to the thermowood we use. Softwoods are the ideal choice for saunas, hardwoods become too hot to be comfortable, can be prone to rot and is less sustainable. Softwoods are traditionally soaked in tanalising fluid to increase their lifespan.
Thermowood is timber heated to a very high temperature in a specially designed kiln until it changes the cellular structure of the timber.
It improves the water, fire and rot resistance and increases stability in humid conditions. It also takes on a rich warm oche colouration and a characteristic smokey aroma. We believe Thermowood manufactured in the UK represents the highest standard in sustainable construction.
